Inside Marina City | Andreas E.G. Larsson Exhibit in Boston now

Posted by admin | May 22, 2012

Andreas’ ‘Inside Marina City’ exhibit, originally featured at the Art Institute, drew a great crowd on it’s opening night in Boston.

For more than two years, Iker Gil and Andreas E.G.Larsson documented the lives of residents in the non-Euclidean geometries of Bertrand Goldberg’s iconic Marina City. Celebrating Goldberg’s original vision for affordable apartments in a central, high-density location, this revealing series of photographs provides a rare, behind-the-scenes tour of the diverse array of people and living spaces within these iconic cylindrical residential towers in downtown Chicago. For more information about this project please visit the website.

Harold Lee Miller | Up for ForeWord Review’s Book of the Year

Posted by admin | May 18, 2012

Fair Culture, Harold Lee Miller’s book of images just published by the Historical Society Press, is a finalist in the photography category in ForeWord Review’s annual Book of the Year Contest. Fingers crossed…

ForeWord is the only book review trade journal devoted exclusively to books from independent publishing houses. The awards bring increased attention to booksellers and librarians of the literary and graphic achievements of independent publishers and their authors.

He started working on the Fair Culture project in August of 2005 with a series of photographs of 4-H participants at the poultry and rabbit barns of the Indiana State Fair. Over the next few years I expanded it to include many county fairs in Indiana (see earlier blog entry below). In addition to the photographs, the book includes an essay by Gerald Waite exploring the history of fairs from the Middle Ages to modern times and what fair culture says about those who participate in this annual ritual of mid-western life.

He has also been chosen as the 2012 Artist in Residence at the Indiana State Fair, with an exhibit of photographs from the book on permanent display during the fair from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. Aug. 3 to Aug. 19 in the artist-in-residence gallery.

Brian Bailey Captures the Variety of YMCA’s Summer Kid’s Programs for Y&R

Posted by admin | May 15, 2012

Brian Bailey had the opportunity to team up with Art Director Jeremy Smallwood again, this time for YMCA’s Summer kid’s programs. Brian was asked to bring his high energy style to feature kids leaping from their bed or sofa to the swimming pool, skate rail, reading club and painting classes offered at various locations around the country.

Brian shot the background, props and talent separately over two days. Images were composited by Chicago-based retoucher Scott Giannini of Giannini Creative.

The shoot was a ton of fun for Brian: “The kids we worked with were awesome! They had lots of energy and personality. And it was great to get a chance to work with Jeremy again.”
